Education

The Importance of Educating Patients
“At Achieva Health, we believe that education is one of the primary cornerstones of achieving health and wellness for patients.”

  • Most of us who have experienced pain will recall that when pain is in the acute phase it can be so overwhelming that we often wrongly assume that we must have a “serious” and potentially “aggressive disease”.

  • Why else would we be having “so much pain”? With the majority of our patients, this is not true.

  • It is not uncommon for minor “wear” or “strain” in the joints to cause a short period of acute pain.

  • This “mechanical” type of pain can typically be alleviated in a relatively short period of time once the clinician evaluates the patient to determine the cause of the symptoms.

  • At Achieva Health, our clinicians make sure that patients understand the assessment findings, why they hurt, why they are weak or why they may have lost normal function.

  • Armed with this knowledge, the clinician and patient can develop a specific treatment plan to help them return to normal.

  • Simply put, we believe that patients who truly understand the source of their pain “hurt less”.

  • We also have found that these patients can be taught simple specific strategies that will allow them to alleviate their pain throughout the day.

  • Patients with knowledge tend to “rehabilitate faster” and return to normal function more quickly because they tend to assume more responsibility and become more actively involved in their rehabilitation process.

  • Whether you are experiencing pain, weakness or have noticed a deterioration in your normal function, Achieva Health Clinicians can help.

  • Your symptoms may be due to simple strains of everyday life, or the results of more strenuous activities in your workplace or athletic activities.

  • Many of our patients come to us for post-surgical rehabilitation; looking for guidance and coaching on what to expect in the convalescent period following surgery. While the cause of the symptoms may vary, our approach remains consistent: evaluate and educate!

Education for the Prevention of Injuries

“At Achieva Health, we strongly believe that education is critical in preventing injuries and maintaining wellness.”

  • Achieva Health prides itself on providing educational seminars that are specifically designed to teach employees how to avoid getting injured while at work.

  • While it is often assumed that only those with “heavy jobs” get injured at work, we find this is not always true.

  • It is not uncommon for employees with jobs that are deemed more sedentary to also experience pain.

  • The focus of our educational seminars is to evaluate the jobs, identify potential risks for injury and then explain to the employees, the stresses and strains, that can lead to pain and disability.

  • Whether it be repetitive strains or prolonging stresses on joints throughout the day, we will demonstrate to the workers how they can alleviate stresses and minimize the risk of injury with the use of proper body mechanics.
