FAMILY CHIROPRACTIC

Children and Young Adults

Fundamental to the chiropractic approach is the understanding that the function of our bodies, and thus our state of health, is mediated and coordinated through the nervous system. We recognize that from before birth, until the age of five, a child’s nerve system is growing and learning at an astonishing rate as neurological pathways form and build upon one another. This process is most intensive and more easily influenced during the early years of life, when neurology is most flexible. When assembled, this neurological architecture defines the window through which we sense, perceive, think, understand and interact with the world. The development and growth of the nerve system continues untilĀ

approximately age 25, and it has been shown that it is possible to form new neural connections up the age of 80. Maintaining the highest possible level of nervous system function throughout life is, therefore, a crucial component to maintaining optimal health and vitality, empowering your body to self-heal and self-regulate, naturally.

The Importance of Normal Nerve Function

Doctors of Chiropractic are highly trained to locate areas within the spine that are under adverse stress/strain, called “vertebral subluxations”, which cause distortions, or interference, in the flow of vital nervous system messages. It is the goal of the chiropractor to correct subluxations by adjusting the spine and as a result restore normal nerve function, which leads to the enhancement of the individual’s natural expression of health. If subluxations are left uncorrected, the ability of the body to adapt to stresses experienced in everyday life is decreased and can eventually lead to the development of a myriad of symptoms and conditions.

More Than Just Back Doctors

Mistakenly believed to be merely “back doctors” for adults, chiropractors have always realized a much broader range of the benefits received from Chiropractic care. Research has shown that chiropractic is effective in the treatment of back pain, neck pain, headaches, numbness or tingling in the arms or legs, painful joints, problems with shoulders, hips or jaws, fatigue, and stress, to name a few. Though Chiropractic does not treat specific symptoms, current research is demonstrating that the improved immune system function that results in children is effective against conditions, such as chronic ear infections, asthma, allergies, bedwetting and colic, that emerged when a subluxation interrupted communication between the brain and the body.

Subluxations are common and can be caused by poor posture and sleeping habits, impacts to the body from slips and falls, traumatic accidents, unhealthy work-related conditions, exercise and physical activity, chemical or emotional stress, and sometimes even the birth process itself can create spinal misalignments which may not be symptomatic for years. Subluxation patterns can often be evident in family members with inherent spinal weaknesses or with similar lifestyles and internal or external stresses from the environment. Early detection and chiropractic correction is important for optimum results and then regular spinal check-ups become a powerful offense to stay well for life. Our focus is not simply to eliminate your symptoms temporarily but to actually prevent disease before health concerns surface and to promote health by motivating you to establish good health habits for a lifetime. Adjustments are often combined with specific exercises to improve posture, balance, mobility, and strength, and consequently reduce degenerative changes and more permanent nerve damage. Chiropractic spinal adjustments are specific, comfortable, safe and highly effective for people of all ages, all walks of life, and all levels of health.
