SPORTS INJURY MANAGEMENT

Integrated, Orthopaedic And Biomechanical Model of Care.

Sport Injury Management (SIM) is a specialization of Chiropractic care that treats individuals with injuries related to athletic activities. Repetitive motions or aggressive physical practices that push the body beyond its capabilities can result in soft tissue injuries such as ligament and muscle sprains. These types of injuries respond well to Chiropractic SIM.

Physical therapies including ice, heat, ultrasound, electrical stimulation, massage, manual traction and stretching are initially used to relieve pain and are followed with manipulative therapies that can help increase range of motion, strengthen muscles and improve flexibility.

Model of Care

Chiropractic Sports Injury Management is an integrated, orthopedic and biomechanical model of care. A diagnosis is developed from a patient’s in-depth health care history, a physical examination and a review of lab results, x-rays, and/or other imaging tests. A comprehensive active and passive treatment plan is then developed, focused on reversing physical shortcomings and attaining patient goals. Progress is continuously monitored throughout the treatment phase. Therapeutic exercise is a key management strategy that is prescribed and monitored under SIM. Progress reports and pertinent information is shared with other health care providers including family physicians, medical specialists (Orthopaedic, Rheumatology, Neurology or Physiatrist), physiotherapists, massage therapists, naturopaths, and exercise trainers.
